How Big Each Sport Actually Is

These are the true game‑line sizes for each sport, so you can instantly see what can fit before we even talk about buffers or fence lines.

Pickleball

Playing lines 44′ × 20′ — same for singles and doubles. Minimum slab with run-off: 60′ × 30′.

Tennis

Tennis lines are 27′ × 78′ for singles and 36′ × 78′ for doubles. Typical court measures 120' x 60'.

Basketball Lines

3-pt arc from the hoop: HS 19'9″ · College 22'2″ · NBA 23'9″ Minimum recommended court size for a 3-pt line is 25'.

Volleyball

Regulation lines 30′ × 60′ — fits inside a standard half-basketball footprint.

Futsal

Full futsal is 131′ × 66′, we scale to 60′ × 30′ for residential 3-on-3 and skills work.

Shuffleboard

Court is 6′ × 52′. Fits as a narrow lane alongside almost any slab.

What can you combine on a custom court?

Start with your space, then pick the sports. Use these quick sizes to see what fits your yard before we jump into a 3D design. Slab size is expensive. Line striping is cheap. Design the slab for every sport you might ever want, then add lines now or later.

Fit Check on Your Lot
STEP 1
Free on-site
We measure the usable pad, check slope, tree roots, drainage paths, easements and HOA setbacks, and identify the largest usable pad the lot will hold. Sloped yards in Austin and San Antonio usually mean a cut-and-fill pad with a retaining edge, priced up front. L-shapes, notches for a live oak and courts wrapped around a pool are all fine.
3D Design Before We Quote
STEP 2
designer.buildmycourts.com
Every custom court starts in our court designer. Pick sports, adjust dimensions, choose colors, add a logo, fence, hoop and lights, then save. Your design carries into the quote and build.
Colors, Logos and Line Hierarchy
step 3
Any two colors + lines
Acrylic color coats come in a full palette. Most courts use two: one for the playing area, one for the border. Lighter colors run cooler in Texas summers. Logos, monograms and school marks are stenciled in the same acrylic and last as long as the lines. The primary sport gets bold white lines; secondary sports get a muted color.
Base and Slab Engineered to the Space
STEP 4
Rebar 4000 PSI standard · Post-tension upgrade
The base is excavated, compacted and graded for drainage, then engineered to the lot and soil. Rebar-reinforced 4000 PSI concrete is standard. Post-tension 4000 PSI concrete is available for larger or unusual slabs. Goal footings, net sleeves, fence sleeves and light bases are set during the pour to avoid core drilling later.
Add Sports and Features Later
step 5
Lines now or later
The slab is sized for future sports, so adding one later means striping, not construction. The same applies to fence panels, lights or permanent nets when sleeves are installed upfront. If tennis is possible, we size and reinforce the pad from the start.
Fit Check on Your Lot

Design your own custom pickleball court. Play with colors for the kitchen, baseline, border, and lines to match your aesthetic.

Common Questions

How much space do I need for a court?

It depends on the sports you want. A 30 by 60 foot pad handles a regulation pickleball court or a basketball half court with a full three-point arc. A 40 by 70 pad gives room for a wider basketball layout plus volleyball. A full tennis court with run-off needs 60 by 120 feet. Custom courts do not have to be rectangles, either. We have built L-shaped and angled courts to fit around pools and trees. Use our online court designer to try layouts, and we confirm what fits your Dallas lot on the site visit.

Dallas HOAs commonly cap court area and set back requirements. A custom footprint often fits the rule better than a standard rectangle.

Yes. Build My Courts works with permitting offices and HOA boards across Dallas every week. For custom courts we include a color rendering from our court designer in the submission so the board can see exactly what they are approving, which cuts down on questions and delays. We prepare the site plan and drawings, submit them, and respond to comments. Bright colors, logos, and lighting are the items HOAs ask about most, and we address each one before the meeting.

Dallas HOAs in Frisco, Prosper, and Southlake are known for strict aesthetic review. A rendering that matches the neighborhood palette gets approved faster.

Most custom courts take about 5 to 6 weeks from the first day on site to finished court. Grading, forming, and the concrete pour happen in the first week. The slab cures for about 28 days before surfacing. The final week covers acrylic surfacing, color coats, custom striping, logos, and installing hoops, nets, fencing, or lighting. Logos and multi-color layouts add a day or two because each color is masked and applied separately. Weather and permits in Dallas are the main variables.

Dallas spring storms and hail can pause coating days. Fall is the fastest build season in North Texas.

Yes, if the slab is sound. We start with a full slab evaluation for cracks, low spots, and drainage, repair what needs fixing, and apply acrylic surfacing in any color scheme you want. Custom logos, unique line layouts, and multi-sport configurations are all available on a conversion. Existing driveways, patios, and old tennis courts in Dallas are common candidates. If the slab is too damaged to coat, we tell you before you spend money on it.

Dallas clay moves a lot, so we confirm cracks are surface-only before recommending a conversion over a rebuild.

Custom courts are low maintenance. Keep the surface clean, blow off leaves and debris regularly, and rinse when dusty. Pressure wash at low pressure once or twice a year. Inspect added features (hoops, nets, fencing, lighting) each season and tighten anything loose. Address cracks or surface damage early to protect the acrylic finish and any logos. With this care, a custom court in Dallas typically goes 5 to 8 years between resurfacing.

Dallas hail and temperature swings open small cracks. Walk the court each spring and fill anything new.
