Most backyard pickleball or half-court basketball setups look great with two poles, one on each long side, centered on the net or free-throw line. If you want tournament-level uniformity, or you’re lighting a full tennis or full basketball court, plan on four poles, one near each corner just outside the playing surface. We run a photometric layout for your exact dimensions so you only pay for the poles you actually need.
Our standard is 20 feet — tall enough to clear lobs and overhead shots while staying code-friendly in most neighborhoods. Depending on your setup we may go as low as 18 feet, but 20 feet is our top pick for the cleanest coverage. Send us your address and we’ll check your local ordinance before we quote a thing.
Not if they’re spec’d right. We use full-cutoff, dark-sky compliant LED fixtures with house-side shields so light hits the court and stops at your property line. We can even hand your HOA the simulation before anything gets installed.
Cheap solar floods aren’t — they leave a hotspot under the pole and dark corners everywhere else. Commercial-grade solar units can handle recreational play and skip the trenching and the electric bill entirely, but for serious nighttime games we still recommend wired LED for truly uniform brightness. Most of our setups include a wall switch with a photocell, scheduling timer, or Wi-Fi smart switch so lights only run when you want them on, which saves energy and keeps the neighbors happy with automatic shut-off at a set hour.
